Carly Rae Jepsen has released "Motivation," a new single and music video from the "night" half of her upcoming 24-track double album Day and Night, due for release on September 18, 2026, via Interscope Records. The song pairs a house-influenced production style with lyrics about family expectations, inherited patterns, and the process of defining one's own identity.
Jepsen co-wrote "Motivation" with Cole M.G.N., who produced the track alongside Kyle Shearer. She explained the song began taking shape during a visit to her hometown, where the sound of falling leaves suggested a rhythmic idea that evolved into the track's foundation. She described it as "our little family anthem" that speaks to both biological and chosen family bonds.
The music video was directed by Caio Viera and filmed on location in Paris. It features a diverse cast representing different forms of connection and community, including Gigi Goode of RuPaul's Drag Race fame. Across the full album, Jepsen explores a wide range of musical styles, with the "day" half leaning toward experimental pop and the "night" half embracing dance, disco, and club influences.
The release follows earlier singles "On Wires," "After All," and "Don't Leave Me on the Dance Floor" as the album rollout continues.
