Police have detained two men for allegedly speeding on a motorcycle toward the convoy of India's Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan in Thiruvananthapuram, a serious security incident that took place as the VVIP travelled to the airport.
Two men have been arrested in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, after they allegedly breached security protocols surrounding the motorcade of Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan on Sunday evening. The incident occurred as the Vice-President was returning from the convocation ceremony of the SUT Academy of Medical Sciences and travelling toward the airport.
The accused — identified as Shakir and Nadirsha, both residents of Vallakadavu — were riding a motorcycle at high speed when they entered the route reserved for the VVIP convoy in the Kovalam area. They were travelling from the Thiruvallam side toward Kovalam when security personnel posted along the route noticed the intrusion and flagged the breach immediately. Both men were intercepted and taken into custody. Subsequent medical examinations found them to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The Vice-President's schedule and movement were not disrupted, and he reached his destination safely. Authorities are conducting a full review of the incident to determine whether additional security measures are needed and to establish whether the breach was accidental or deliberate. The two men are being held for further questioning and will face charges under relevant security and road safety laws.
