2026 MTV VMAs: Taylor Swift Wins Video of the Year as Madonna Takes Multiple Honors

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards took place on September 27 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with Taylor Swift winning Video of the Year and Madonna collecting multiple awards across major categories.  


The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards brought together some of the biggest names in music on Sunday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with artists from pop, hip-hop, R&B, K-pop, Latin and country music recognized across a wide range of categories.

Taylor Swift took home the night’s Video of the Year award for “The Fate of Ophelia.” She also received the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, recognizing her work and achievements in music video direction.

Madonna was one of the night’s biggest winners, receiving multiple awards throughout the ceremony. Her wins included Artist of the Year, as well as recognition for her work on “Confessions II – The Film” across several creative categories.

Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter won Best Collaboration for “Bring Your Love,” while Madonna also received honors in categories including Best Dance, Best Cinematography and Best Choreography.

In the pop category, LISA won Best Pop for “Dream,” featuring Kentaro Sakaguchi. The win adds another major international award to LISA’s career and highlights the continued presence of K-pop artists at the VMAs.

BTS also had a notable night. The group won Song of the Year for “SWIM” and Best K-Pop, in addition to taking home Best Group.

Elsewhere, Sienna Spiro won Best New Artist, while Cardi B featuring Kehlani took home Best Hip-Hop for “Safe.”

Bruno Mars won Best R&B for “I Just Might,” while Olivia Rodrigo received Best Alternative for “the cure.” Bad Bunny won Best Latin for “NUEVAYoL,” and Ella Langley won Best Country for “Choosin’ Texas.”

Several awards recognized technical and visual aspects of music videos. Taylor Swift won Best Direction for “Opalite,” while PinkPantheress won Best Art Direction for “Stateside + Zara Larsson.”

Sabrina Carpenter won Best Editing for “House Tour,” while Ariana Grande received Best Visual Effects for “hate that i made you love me.”

Ariana Grande also won Song of Summer for the same track.

The ceremony additionally featured special honors. Nirvana received the Video Vanguard Award, while Taylor Swift was presented with the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors.
