Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another dominated the 2026 BAFTA Film Award nominations with 14 mentions, followed closely by Ryan Coogler's Sinners and Chloé Zhao's Hamnet as Hollywood's biggest names descended on London for the prestigious ceremony.
The 2026 British Academy Film Awards ceremony, held at London's Royal Festival Hall on February 22, 2026, saw Paul Thomas Anderson's darkly comic political thriller One Battle After Another lead the field with an impressive 14 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, and acting nods for Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn. Close behind were Ryan Coogler's vampire-horror epic Sinners and Chloé Zhao's Shakespearean drama Hamnet, both of which received multiple nominations across key categories. Also strongly represented were the table tennis biopic Marty Supreme starring Timothée Chalamet and the alien-kidnap drama Bugonia featuring Emma Stone.
Going into the ceremony, Jessie Buckley was the clear favourite to win Best Actress for her portrayal of Agnes Shakespeare in Hamnet, while Marty Supreme's Chalamet was tipped to take home Best Actor. In the supporting categories, Stellan Skarsgård and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas from the Norwegian drama Sentimental Value were widely predicted to win. British talent was well represented despite the Hollywood-heavy nominations: Hull-born actor Robert Aramayo received a Best Actor nod for I Swear, while Wunmi Mosaku, Emily Watson, and Carey Mulligan were all nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Scottish veteran Peter Mullan earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination. The ceremony also featured a special musical performance from HUNTR/X — EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI — performing their Golden Globe-winning hit "Golden" from KPop Demon Hunters, despite the track not being nominated in any BAFTA category.
Hosted by Alan Cumming, the ceremony was broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and screened in the United States on E!. The BAFTA Fellowship — the Academy's highest honour — was awarded to Dame Donna Langley, Chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment. Historically, BAFTA winners have proven strong predictors of success at the Academy Awards: 13 of the previous 15 Best Actor winners at BAFTA went on to win the Oscar, as did 10 of the last 12 Best Actress recipients, making the London ceremony a key bellwether for the upcoming Oscars.
